Give a site to another account
The owner of a site can give it to another Clave account. An agency uses this to hand a finished site to its client. A client uses it to give a site back.
A transfer changes who owns the site, and nothing else. The address, the published versions, the source, the store, the forms and the enquiries do not change.
The two steps
- The owner offers the site to an address. That address must already have a Clave account.
- The account at that address accepts, in the app or with its own agent. Nothing changes until it does.
The offer ends after 7 days. The owner can take it back, and the receiver can decline it, until it is accepted.
Only the owner can offer a site. A collaborator cannot.
What moves with the site
- The site's domain. It counts against the receiver's plan.
- The collaborators. They keep their access. The receiver can remove them.
- The secrets. The values move, and nobody can read them. The offer lists their names.
- The history. The receiver sees the site's versions, payments and activity from before the move.
Stay or leave
When the owner offers the site, they choose whether to stay. A giver who stays keeps working on the site as a collaborator. A giver who leaves loses access at the move, and a form that sends enquiries to them sends them to the receiver. The receiver sees the choice before they accept.
A site that takes money cannot move yet
A site with a payout account cannot be offered or accepted. The owner stops it taking money first, and the receiver connects their own payout account after the move.
Money already taken stays where it went. A payment that is still held ends at the move. A payment from before the move is refunded by the old owner, in their own provider dashboard.
The receiver's plan
The receiver's plan must have room for the site: a running or archived slot, a domain slot when the site has a domain, and a plan that runs code when the live site has server code. Clave checks this when the receiver accepts, and the offer says whether it fits.
